Carlos Alcaraz, a mix of modern and ancient tennis in emotional moments.

By Emilio Sanchez Vicario, CEO of the Emilio Sanchez Academy & Former Tennis Pro.

And for many more years, we will remember the wonderful final that went into the history of this past Wimbledon 2023 on the central court of the “All England Club”

Author:  Emilio Sanchez Vicario

Pure sport, physical, mental, generational fighting,  opponents were 16 years apart. On the one hand, Carlos I could rank the most technically complete player in history at his age. He has revolutionized tennis, using his punches in any of the zones, both on his side and the opponents, with his drop shots, a mixture of high and low balls, strong and soft, topspins and slices. He plays deep and strong like all modern tennis players, but he also plays in the inside half of the court as players did in ancient tennis and there is the great evolution. Or REVOLUTION.

In front of him, he has had the champion in his maximum expression by building together all the pillars technical, tactical, physical, and mental. Djoko has found his best version after getting the best form, he lives tennis in a spartan way. Taking care of his physique in an innovative way, living, eating, and sleeping to take care of his body, developing that survival instinct of the most truthful predators, using their best weapons when emotions betray you. He is able to enter a state where he never makes mistakes and abstracts himself from the emotions that during the game can often make him vulnerable. But when it really counts, it does not affect him, it is as if there were two Djokos, the one who is negatively excited when he things don’t count, and the one who does not affect him and appears in the moments that matter. Since Roland Garros he had won 16 tiebreaks, more than 100 points and, we could count his mistakes on one hand. Carlos broke that record and was better in emotional moments.

The Spanish player could read better, be more patient, more aggressive, confident, be more happy, and, above all, be more predatory. In the points that change the matches, he was happy and found the formula to make his best game and, get Djoko to show his negative emotions in the key moments, which are the ones that count. In the 5-4 down in the tiebreak, Djoko missed two backhands in a row, his best shot, and there the game changed. Carlos managed to win the battle of emotions to end up dominating in the third. Drop a little in the fourth, but after Djoko’s mistake in the net at the break point of the third game. In the fifth, Carlos kept his composure and fought the battle the same way. These epic matches are defined in those few points and Carlitos knew how to endure without being weighed by emotions, as happened in Paris. In there, everyone thought he was winning, he found a wall. In London. Carlos won the emotional battle to win the biggest game of his career. He was more resilient, a fighter, positive in adversity, confident, calm, and inspired by victory.

-Alcaraz during the ATP Challenger of the Emilio Sanchez Academy, Barcelona.

Carlos did not make one of the matches that characterize him with total domination, but he did grow as progressed. He won in the cathedral against the champion of the last 5 years, against the tennis player who has played more finals in history. But the most important thing is to win in the final of Wimbledon against one of the top 3 in history, Djoko, Rafa, and Fed, and it is not the same to beat them. Therefore this victory counts triple, it strengthens him in the world top and leads him to the glory of getting closer to becoming like them.

Wimbledon’s enchantment; belongs to our dreams.

By Emilio Sanchez Vicario, CEO of the Emilio Sanchez Academy & Former Tennis Pro.

As a passionate tennis player, I can’t contain my excitement as I prepare for my long-awaited return to Wimbledon. After years away from the prestigious tournament, I’m eager to witness the electrifying atmosphere, marvel at the modern tennis skills on display, and reconnect with fellow players and fans. However, amidst my anticipation, I can’t help but think about the budding talents at my tennis academies, where young children are tirelessly training, dreaming of one day stepping onto the hallowed Wimbledon grass. This blog recounts my experiences and explores the parallel journeys of both a tennis enthusiast and aspiring young student-athletes.

Upon my arrival at Wimbledon, I know I will be immediately overwhelmed by a sense of nostalgia mixed with the anticipation of experiencing the sport’s grandest stage once again. I reminisce about the history, the legendary matches, and the iconic players who left an indelible mark on the tournament. From the lush green courts to the passionate crowds, I describe the unique ambiance that engulfs Wimbledon and its unmatched appeal.

As I‘ll settle into the stands, I sure marvel at the evolution of tennis since my last visit. Sport has become faster, more dynamic, and even more physically demanding. I highlight the emergence of new playing styles, advancements in equipment, and the strategic innovations that have transformed the game. I touch upon the rivalries that captivate fans, the rise of a new generation of tennis stars, and the impact of technology on the sport. I’m looking forward to seeing Carlos’ improvements and Novak’s experience.

One of the most exciting aspects of returning to Wimbledon will be the opportunity to reconnect with fellow tennis enthusiasts, players, and coaches. I’m looking forward to sharing anecdotes and having conversations with fans from around the world, swapping stories with old acquaintances, and soaking in the collective passion for the sport. The camaraderie and sense of community among tennis lovers at such events are unparalleled.

Today, while immersing myself in the thrilling atmosphere of Wimbledon, I will reflect on the aspiring young talents back at my academies. I shed light on the intensive training camps, the dedication of the young players and coaches, and their dreams of one day gracing the courts of Wimbledon. I’ll talk to coaches and share inspiring stories of young athletes who are channeling their passion and working hard to achieve their goals.

Connecting Past, Present, and Future: In the final section of my blog, I explore the significance of bridging the gap between my own experiences as a tennis enthusiast and the dreams of the young players at my academies. I discuss the importance of mentorship, fostering a love for the game, and providing opportunities for the next generation to flourish. I delve into the role of grassroots programs, junior competitions, and the transformative power of inspiring young athletes.

My journey in Wimbledon with my family will be a memorable experience that I’ll reignite my love for tennis. Witnessing the pinnacle of the sport while simultaneously being reminded of the dreams and aspirations of young players at my academies will be a humbling and inspiring experience. As I will return home, I will be more motivated than ever to support and encourage the talented young athletes, hoping that one day, they too will stand on the prestigious grounds of Wimbledon, realizing their dreams and making their mark in the tennis world.

A peppa pig bandage and a cookie monster

As I was starting to write this blog about the ES Summer camp, one of the youngest campers from the little group came asking for a “Peppa Pig bandage”, of course, I said, “Here it is” After she said thank you and walked away by the hallway singing with a big smile from ear to ear. At the end of the hallway, she stopped and said: “I am going to do my cookie like a cookie monster.” That day we found that the Arts & Crafts activity for the day was cookie decorating. It is incredible how a single cookie decorating contest could determine their happiness and then I said to myself let me write about why her day was the happiest I have seen today because everyone deserves to experience her happiness.

This girl is with the campito group a younger group who are beginners at tennis and play with orange or red balls. Their summer camp starts at 8 am and can go up until the full day at 2:30 pm. To start her day, she played one hour of fitness games to start activating her body, followed by a 10-minute break rest to apply sunscreen inside the kid’s room. After fitness, the group does one hour of tennis drills to improve their game, and in between they have a yummy snack of goldfish crackers. During the second tennis hour, they play tennis games to practice what was learned, on that day she had played jailbreak, fruit cup, and rallied back and forth with her friends from camp. Then it was time for lunch, at her lunch break she had pasta with chicken strips, after she picked up her area, she had some time to do a free coloring time before the group would do their arts and crafts of the day and the pre-academy group go to their match play session. It was then that she realized the old bandage that she brought from home had fallen so that’s when she went to the coach and asked for one.

Once she got back, she did her cookie monster and ate it. After her group ate their creative cookie monster, they started to prepare all their staff for pool time. During pool time she took a watermelon-shaped floatie and played with her friends a game of the imaginary boat. A game where the floaties were the boats, the pool noodles were their swords, and the water balloons were the bombs to help protect the imaginary kingdom. Then the dad came to pick her up, signed at the checked-out, and took her home. Little by little all the campers took their rackets and their bags from the kids’ room and left home. But they knew that camp wasn’t over because tomorrow was going to be Friday and what happens on Fridays? Friday is fun day which means in tennis they get to play more games and show their best game, in crafts they get to do hand-painted prints and bring a craft home and at the pool, they have a campito party with water balloons. Last but not least at the goodbye time they have an awards ceremony with a diploma and a t-shirt because of all of their big accomplishments during their week of camp!

9 weeks of camp 9 weeks of fun with every day new learnings with the tennis, new friends, new arts & crafts, and new experiences to live at the ES Camp.

5 Goals 5 Successes 5 Accomplishments 5 Futures

By Antonio Chavez representative speaker for the class of 2023 graduates.

“Good Afternoon,

Ladies and Gentlemen, staff members, family members, guests, and most importantly, the graduating class of 2023 – I am truly humbled and grateful to stand here before you all.

Firstly, thank you all for being here. Your presence today signifies your support for the futures of the incredible young individuals gathered here today, and it does not go unnoticed. This event is as much a celebration for you, the pillars of our lives, as it is for the graduating seniors.

To the exceptional staff at our academy and school – teachers, administrators, coaches, and support staff – we cannot express our gratitude enough. Your tireless efforts and dedication have helped shape us on and off the court and molded us into better individuals, preparing us for the world beyond these academy walls.

Let us take a moment to remember this past year—a year filled with invaluable experiences and unforgettable memories. From cheering on our spirit houses teams at field days to the late-night study sessions and everything in between, we’ve laughed, learned, and grown together. These shared moments have created a bond that will stand the test of time.

Now, to the heroes of the day – the graduating class of 2023. Over the past two years, I have been here, I have had the privilege of watching you transform from excellent students to accomplished seniors. We’ve shared classes, projects, successes, and setbacks. And through it all, I’ve seen tremendous growth in each of you, and I can say that you all have so much to offer to the world.

To Natalie, I think we have never been close, but any moment I needed help with anything, you were always there for me, and I know you will do amazing in whatever your next step in life is. To Diego, you are a great person, you have always been a friend to me, and your respect and discipline have taught me a lot, and I will never forget our Calc grind through the year, and I wish you the best in Mexico. To Bell, my mixed doubles partner, even though we didn’t win, playing with you was one of the best experiences of my life. I will miss you; even though you could be annoying sometimes, you have taught me what discipline, effort, and respect mean, and I’m sure you will continue to grow and make everyone around you better, thanks for being there for me.  To Filippo, my Italian friend, I have met a lot of Italian people, and I got to say you are my favorite. You are a wonderful human being; I still believe you should become a professional soccer player, and if you ever do, please stay in touch; your moral values and passion are what make you grow, and they will continue to help you succeed in everything you decide to do with your life. Last and least, Zhang, Wow, I have known you since I got here, and we have been very close since. From sharing the court almost every day to playing FIFA and beating you every time, I’ve seen you grow as an individual. The bond we’ve shared throughout these years has surpassed the realms of friendship. You’ve stood steadfastly by my side through trials, triumphs, laughter, and tears. I’ve always told you that I love being the oldest kid in my family, but I had never felt what it is like having a big brother, and you gave that to me. You’ve been a mentor, a confidant, a friend, and above all, a brother. I am very proud of you for what you have become, and I’m happy I was a part of your journey. I know you will do great in this next chapter of your life, and I wish you all the best.

Each one of you has unique gifts and abilities that have enriched our lives, and we are all the better for having known you.

And so, as we gather here today to celebrate your achievements, we also look ahead to your promising futures. Whether stepping onto a college campus, embarking on a new career, or exploring another path, remember the lessons and values you’ve learned here.

Remember to keep exploring, dreaming, and pushing forward as you each embark on your unique journeys. The world is your canvas, and we can’t wait to see the masterpiece you create.

In conclusion, as I stand here as a junior, I am filled with pride and admiration. Your accomplishments inspire me, and I am excited about what lies ahead for each of you. May you carry the lessons, friendships, and memories from our academy as you step into the next chapter of your lives.

Congratulations, Class of 2023! Best wishes as you set forth on your next adventure. Your journey is just beginning; we can’t wait to see where it takes you.

THE BIGGEST PRO EVENT IN TOWN – WOMEN’S 60K WITH WORLD TOP #150.

A week away from now, starts a new opportunity for the pro players to come to show an amazing spectacle for the city of Naples to enjoy. This May 8th a new journey for 64 players arriving in southwest Florida to conquer the tennis fans with a 60k event for women’s tennis at the ES Academy.

A unique event that is sponsored by the leading automobile manufacturer BMW Of Naples and one of the biggest tennis manufacturer of the world Head Tennis. A new era of players has risen, players that have the hunger to become the new Gauff or the next Swiatek. With a draw of 32 in the qualifiers starting Monday 8th, only 6 athletes can advance to the 32 women’s main draw to compete for the championship with the Finals being played on Sunday 14th.

Tennis brings out the best and the worst in all of us, tennis fans. Are you a tennis fan? Do you get those goosebumps when there is a match point, do you get nervous during the ad points and are about to pass out when the longest point is happening for a deciding tiebreak? Then you understand what I am talking about.

We are bringing 58 players to Naples, 58 athletes whose careers are on the rise for greatness. Who knows maybe one of them is next year’s Ons Jabeur, who entered the season having never advanced past the quarterfinals at a major and ended the year as the world No. 2. Or Emma Raducanu who started as a wildcard player in Wimbledon last year ranked at 338 in the WTA rankings and she ended the season in the top 20 after her remarkable US Open triumph in September. Like this, many other stories of amazing upsets that we see each day in women’s tennis. So who knows maybe you are watching this following week what will be the next top #10 athlete in the WTA.

If we go back in time when women’s tennis was created in 1873 and when it played a role in the Olympics of 1900, women’s tennis has become a huge movement to what we know of the sport today. Today you google Women’s Tennis and it shows you all the live scores, the articles about the best moments in tennis, the grand slam champions, among much other information that tennis fans are looking for. They even made a Netflix show about the upcoming champions in both women’s and men’s which will have a new season coming up. Even price money has turned into the same amount for both genres in the US Open.

As for women in sports, all the female tennis players have become one of the greatest entertainments, with amazing athletes thriving for success.

In our academy we love to support this movement, we are all in for women showing their game, giving us a great match, and performing at their highest level. We want to be an example of a strong community, with the ES women athletes we want to give them as many opportunities as we can to let them win the spotlight in anything they do in life. For that reason we want to give this great opportunity, to encourage those players who are doing the step to higher rankings and continue with their careers to become the next number 1.

We are inviting you all to come watch this amazing tournament, and cheer for those athletes who are becoming an important figure in the tennis world.

TOP 10 things you need to do this Summer

What’s your favorite memory of a summer when you were a kid?

Maybe it is the time when your parents let you go on a trip with your friends, maybe it is the moment you won an important sports tournament for the first time, or the moment you made friends from another country that lasted a lifetime. Whatever your best memory is of those times, now is your kid’s time to live it. This Is why we are bringing them with a top 10 things they need to do this summer:

1-Create a summer bucket list and travel somewhere.

A bucket list of things you want to accomplish, a list that afterward you can glue a picture next to your accomplishment notebook to keep your favorite memory. Travel somewhere with your family, go somewhere tropical, closer to the beach, somewhere that feels like a home away from home.

2-Practice your favorite sport.

Go out, practice the sport you love, and enjoy being on the court. Countless hours of exercising will pay off. Practice creates physical and mental growth; you improve by creating repetition you get better by corrections, and you become your best by becoming consistent and having that joy for the sport. Train 1 to 1 with your favorite coach, make mistakes to improve, win rotations, play practice matches, have fun during Saturday games and be able to show your best game during your everyday practice.

3-Meet your best friend.

Go to camp, have a new roommate, create movie nights with him/her, talk about your lives discover things in common and most importantly share different cultures with people from around the world. Relationships that will last forever, making friendships from all over the world that will allow you to experience different cultures and visit in the future, different places of the world.

4-Win a tournament.

Play, train, work hard, and be the best you can be. Compete until there is no limit, play at your best to accomplish something great, something you are proud of. The recognition, the feeling of a tournament well done that will keep you striving. Hold your trophy high enough that competitors will envy how hard you have worked for that moment.

5-Go on an adventure.

Visit a new place, go do a crazy activity such as visiting the alligators on a boat, go on the largest water slide you have ever been, win team Olympics, ice skate in the middle of summer, play soccer inside a gigantic bubble or jump at your highest on the trampoline. Get the feeling of winning the paintball game against your friends or escaping an escape room with the best strategy.

6-Play with a world top 10.

Play and enjoy. Get the feeling of being able to play with a top #1 in the world. Hitting with him back and forth on the court, on a regular Tuesday because he came to your court on that day. The feeling when he tells you the anecdotes of a Roland Garros tournament during a sunny day and how you should never give up. The moment he tells you “Let’s go, one more ball” but you know that he will finish the whole basket of balls because that is what it takes to get better.

7-Learn a new language

Learning while having fun. Play games, ask questions learn from conversations. Not in a regular classroom but in a summer fun one. Catch up on some words, try to pronounce and engage with creativity during charades, laugh at each other because someone lost during the card games, or call your parents to tell them about the new words you learned.

8-Create something great.

Do a different workshop, try an artwork activity, paint your best friend without seeing, create a lava lamp, create an artistic drawing made of bubbles, bring home a snow globe made by you, and design your perfect pom rug for your bedroom. Learn how to build the biggest cookie on the planet and how to create a unique signature made tiramisu or make the biggest human figure during an acrossport session.

9-Beat the summer heat.

Keep it cool, swim in the pool, have outside water activities, go on a boat field trip, play hide & seek inside a clubhouse, do some cool art projects, do a workout with the coolest coach and have some lemonade during Friday fun days.

10-Celebrate a night.

Celebrate Independence Day, celebrate the joy of the summer, celebrate the Friday during a pool party, celebrate with your team a win in a summer tournament or celebrate someone’s journey during Friday awards. Multiple celebrations with your new friends that you will remember forever. Take a picture, capture those moments, and even make an album that you will cherish in the future.

We recommend you do all of them. The only way you could do all of them is next to us, by bringing your kids to the Emilio Sanchez Summer Camp in Naples Florida to have the best experience of the Summer. Make this summer memorable for you and your kids.

Along with the tennis route, there are many USTA/UTR and other junior tournaments hosted on and off campus for the students to compete and exceed.

All wrapped up

By the ES STAFF, ES FAMILY

As the students prepare for the winter break, the academy prepares for a new season full of opportunities for new and returning students. Place for many, and family for most, our academy is preparing for another closing of the year with many memories and experiences that will remain around the hallways.

Rewinding all the moments, which one is the one we keep the most for this Christmas? All of them. From the younger boys being the most active at the boarding houses, running around with the highest energy of them all to the younger girls being the sweetest, polite as always stepping up to show their potential to the older boys who show their desire to eat the world, to fight for every point on the court to the oldest girls dedicated as no one else, giving their best on and off the court, achieving great things at important tournaments and developing great academic scores.

Our tennis academy has many different nationalities together coming from all over the world. Starting from Spain, Italy, USA, Honduras, Czech, Mexico, Canada, China, Singapore, France, Brasil & Costa Rica. During their stay here they get the opportunity to develop relations with different people who might not have the same perspective of the world as them. But, they are able to learn every day how to be open-minded and see the world in different ways.

Christmas is about family, giving, feeling love, and magic. We feel fulfilled because we have created an ES Family that goes beyond tennis, and that’s what we call magic. We feel like we gave our best and brought all of our love to this ES family to be able to grow.

This Christmas and winter break we want to wish all the junior athletes the best of luck in their tennis, in their education, and in their life. Remind them that they are all unique and important and to take life as a journey where they get to learn many different things that will help them become the best version of themselves. Our doors will always be open to growing together as student-athletes.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

ES STAFF, ES FAMILY

It all starts with them

It all starts with them, at such a young age the families of our student-athletes decide to join the academy. The time of their stay at the Emilio Sanchez Academy goes by so fast, and for a young athlete is not easy.

This blog is different than the rest, this blog is about us, our small family, our place of opportunities, our professionals, and most importantly, our student-athletes.

We call ourselves a small family because we really are, here we know our student’s goals, we know their favorite hobbies, and we also know our athlete’s preferences, their favorite songs, and even their favorite food. We understand their emotional stages. Us as professionals we see this place as our second home, a place where we care about these students as if they were our kids. A place where we can make sure they are happy, they are safe, and where they can fulfill their goals.

There will be some days where we get tired, some days where we get upset or we have to have long talks with the athletes to make them see the right pathway but this is how families are. The young ones have lots of energy, some days they get upset, some days they want to be trouble makers and some days they are just tired. This academy is demanding, they train a minimum of 3 hours a day plus hours of fitness and they go to school for the rest of the day. Neither a student from 12 nor from 18 can give 100% every day, there will be better and worst days but this is the reason why we are here, to bring them up, and to get to the best they can do with motivation, effort, enthusiasm, and passion.

Each one of our athletes is placed in a group with 2 captains, those captains are his/her tutors, one a member of our coaching staff, a professional certified under our tennis system, with professional background in his/her field. The other tutor is one of our teachers, a member of our private school, and they have great experience and countless degrees in their field. Let’s not forget that all of our student-athletes that are boarding with us have their house guardian. That person automatically becomes the third tutor as he/she is responsible for the wellbeing of the kid. These 3 are just their main tutors but believe me, once the kids meet all the staff members they create a connection so strong with everyone that they forget their families are not here because as I have been telling you, we all are their families here.

For that reason, we want you to bring your young student-athlete so we can help him/her achieve their goals and get their tennis/school to the next level. We are giving you the opportunity to do so with this help during the Black Friday sale to book your program of choice next to us, next to our ES Staff, and next to our ES Family.

Lastly, we want you to check out this video that collects connections and memories that our staff wants you to see to show you how special your kids are to us.

ES STAFF, ES FAMILY

A method to grow

Since 23 years ago, the Emilio Sanchez Academy has been developing a method that helps with the physical and mental development of athletes. A complete system implemented to meet short and long term objectives. A method that works with all types of players, regardless of age and level. A successful method that over the years has helped with succesful results on the ATP and WTA Tour.

Our training system, named 360 Tennis System, is based on four pillars that helps improve the player’s on-court performance; The technical pillar, the tactical pillar, the physical pillar and the mental pillar.

  • Technical training. According to experts, technique is defined as the specific sequence of movements used to solve tasks related to movement in sports situations.

Thanks to a series of exercises programmed on a daily basis, which are applicable on any type of surface, we achieve the improvement of our player’s physical and tennis conditions.

According to one of our ES Coaches, the point of impact of the ball is the key to start improving technique. His favorite drill to work on the impact point is a chain based on half court repetitions with a bounce to get the best impact point off the ball, both in the forehand and backhand strokes. In addition, he considers that the most important point to get a good hit is the vision and its fixation of the impact, keep it until you finish accompanying the ball to the other side of the court.

  • Tactical training.  Adaptations that athletes make to unexpected conditions that occur during a match.

Every tennis player must be able to use his tools in his game and be able to apply them in the match or during his/her training situations.

An example would be the +20 chain. This exercise is accompanied by a lot of material on the court, cones with the purpose of a target at the back of the court to be able to work on the depth of the point. The objective is to achieve a rally of at least 20 balls in a row at the back of the court, working on depth and consistency in the points, so that the opponent does not have the opportunity to enter aggressively towards the net.

The ES Coaches are able to maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses in the game thanks to the ES 360 training system.

  • Physical Pillar. Physical training aims to increase endurance, strength, power and flexibility by training muscles that are specifically used in a given sport.

Chains of exercises for off and on-court are used to work on technique and stroke tactics but are not enough to achieve a better performance, both in training and in matches.

Every tennis player has been in the situation of having a long match, a match with many movements, a slower match, an overload, or an injury. In these complicated moments, is when the player finds himself in a situation out of his comfort zone, when the physical aspect is one of the most important. Creating an individualized training plan for athletes setting goals would help to improve their physical capabilities.

Along with this factor, and no less important, is sports nutrition. A training accompanied by proper nutrition would help the player to achieve his goals, a higher intensity of work, and a better rest.

  • Mental Pillar. Defined as the systematic application and integration of certain skills, techniques, and psychological methods in order to optimize the performance of the sport.

The mind is the muscle that dominates everything. The head and thoughts can play a dirty trick on athletes if they are not worked properly. The program that we had been developing is called the ES Academy Athlete Mind System. It integrates mental training on and off the court. The daily work of the mental sessions allows the player to analyze his situation, understand it, and be able to improve it in the short, medium or long term.

Our system goes beyond the athlete, it helps create the best atmosphere for their growth. It is a unique system for tennis athletes that want to become better athletes, that want to accomplish greatness and that won’t stop trying. For that reason, we have developed this approach to help our juniors grow up becoming better with their tennis game, their tactical game, their body performance and their mindset. Because to be a complete athlete is not easy but, nothing stops you from trying.
