QUALITIES OF A GREAT COACH

COACHING SERIES: INTERVIEW WITH ASC BARCELONA TRAVELING COACH, ALVARO PINO

This week I want to share a story about a special person on the Sanchez-Casal team, Alvaro Pino. Alvaro is the son of Antonio Pino, a former tennis player, and coach who has worked with us since the Academy was founded in Barcelona.

There is so much I can say about Alvaro, but quite honestly, his loyalty speaks for itself. I have watched Alvaro transition from being a student to a player, to finally becoming a coach at Sanchez-Casal. Alvaro helped open the facility in Naples, Florida and today he is one of the most successful traveling coaches on the ASC Barcelona team.

Alvaro has demonstrated his passion for tennis and coaching in everything he does. He lives, eats and breathes ASC. When he went with me to Mexico earlier this year, I watched him grow not only a coach but also as a person. He delivered great lectures and told stories from the heart. That’s when I realized that the opportunity he earned at ASC was really happening and that our mission was working. Nothing makes me prouder and happier than seeing a coach that inspires others. Having coaches like this will help us keep growing and delivering a special energy that encourages ASC players to maximize their performance.

I’m glad to introduce Alvaro to you; a special ASC traveling coach and an even better person.

    Dear Mr.Emilio Sanchez
You are a living legend in your own way.You are a great inspiration for many aspiring coaches all over the world.
I have read the article you wrote about Mr.Alvaro the travelling coach of ASC, inculcating the spirit of ASC and inspiring mny more persons and stake holders of tennis. Personal Experience of the coach inspires the upcoming and budding players rather than the coaching manuals as there will be bonding between players and coaches when the personal experience sharing is done in an informal manner. Last month I personally spent time at ASC Barcelona campus along with my 12 year old daughter who played the first round of the main draw of Sanchez Casal Kids under-12 tournament between 6-10 August 2018. It was a rewarding experience for both of us as the world class ambience of ASC made me awe-struck as I rarely see the three types of tennis court surfaces (grass, clay and hard) around the world!!!

      Dear G Showraiah Babu:

Thanks for your kind words. I believe in people, and the difference they make. Alvaro is the second on a long list of coaches that will be presented to the public in the following months through our blog.
All this coaches are very special, they are good people, they care, they live for their students and whatever amount we pay them is not enough, they do amazing job. They are the direct responsible for the success of Sanchez Casal this 20 years and Its time to show our team.
They inspire me day in and day out and I could not be more proud of them. You been in the academy and you know how they make you feel when you there.

This week we have a Challenger at the Academy and all the teams are working together, they are multiplying themselves to help in any department and Atp players will hopefully feel it, its amazing to have a group of people like that, I’m so lucky and inspired by them, after the coaches series maybe will start another with every one working at the academy , every story from every employee is inspiring and has been key to make ASC be the best version every day. I repeat myself, have and incredible team. People is our success. Thanks to all of them we are what we are.

In Sanchez casal we always talk about our system, but what makes the difference is us, the ASC people.

  2. This is really a great article. My daughter just wrapped up a lesson with you. I wanted to make sure I set the bar high with quality people and coaches like yourself. Your legacy is beyond tennis. I can’t thank you enough for your leadership and wisdom.
